Cadena Hotelera Rey es Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Cadena Hotelera Rey es, you immediately get the sense that this is a place that knows its audience. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t — this three-star hotel in Bogotá‘s Engativá district focuses on delivering solid comfort without any unnecessary frills. The lobby feels welcoming in that understated way, and honestly, after dealing with the chaos of Colombian traffic to get here, that calm atmosphere hits just right.
The Engativá Advantage
Here’s what I really appreciate about this location — you’re in a proper residential neighborhood where actual bogotanos live and work. Engativá isn’t touristy at all, which means you get authentic local restaurants within walking distance and prices that haven’t been inflated for visitors. The area feels safe during the day, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that isn’t crawling with other travelers. Plus, you’ve got easy access to the TransMilenio system, so getting into central Bogotá is actually pretty straightforward once you figure out the routes.
Practical Comforts
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star — clean, functional, with a decent bed that didn’t leave me waking up sore. The Wi-Fi worked consistently (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in this part of the city), and the hot water was reliable. What really stood out was having free private parking right on site — if you’re planning to rent a car to explore outside Bogotá, this is actually a huge deal since secure parking can be a real headache in the city.
Local Dining Scene
While the hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, you’re surrounded by some genuinely good local spots. There’s a family-run place about two blocks away that does incredible ajiaco — the kind of thick, hearty soup that becomes essential when Bogotá’s altitude and weather start getting to you. I mean, you could venture into Zona Rosa for dinner, but honestly, some of the best meals I had were right in the neighborhood for a fraction of the price.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it delivers on the basics without any pretense. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re comfortable, and there’s something to be said for that personal touch you get at smaller properties. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the quiet atmosphere — it’s the kind of place where you can actually have a conversation without competing with lobby music or crowds of tour groups. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities, but it’ll give you a solid base for exploring Bogotá without breaking your budget.
To book a hotel in Bogota during Christmas lights, guests pair Monserrate funicular rides with Usaquen market strolls.

Cadena Hotelera Rey has the sweetest host I've encountered in a long time! He met us late at night to help us get in, offered to drive us to the airport, and then when we missed our flight let us check back in and offered to let us leave our bags when we booked a late night flight out! The space was clean and comfy and perfect for the two of us!
