Hotel San Francisco de Asís Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel San Francisco de Asís, you immediately get that comfortable, unpretentious vibe that makes you want to kick off your shoes. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Bogotá’s La Candelaria district, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you’re here to actually experience the city rather than just pass through it. The lobby has this warm, colonial-inspired feel — nothing flashy, but everything feels solid and welcoming in that distinctly Colombian way.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s great about staying on Carrera 10? You’re literally walking distance from Plaza Bolívar, the Gold Museum, and all those narrow cobblestone streets that make La Candelaria so photogenic. I mean, you can stumble out the front door and be surrounded by street art, little cafés, and that amazing chaos that is downtown Bogotá. Couples seem to really love this spot — there’s something romantic about wandering these historic streets together, especially in the early evening when the light hits those colonial buildings just right.
The Room Experience
The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star hotel — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details: good water pressure in the shower, decent Wi-Fi that actually works, and windows that open (which is surprisingly rare in some Bogotá hotels). The beds are genuinely comfortable, and after long days of walking around the city’s hills, that matters more than you might think.
Breakfast & Practical Perks
The breakfast setup here is actually pretty solid — they do both continental and American options, so whether you want fresh tropical fruit and Colombian coffee or something more substantial before heading out to explore, you’re covered. But here’s the thing that really sets this place apart: free private parking. If you’ve ever tried to park in La Candelaria, you’ll understand why this is basically like finding gold. Most visitors don’t realize how much of a headache (and expense) parking can be in this part of the city.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something to be said for a hotel that people actually return to — and Hotel San Francisco de Asís has more repeat guests than most places I’ve stayed. I think it comes down to that sweet spot between location, comfort, and value that’s surprisingly hard to find in Bogotá. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or rooftop pools you’ll never use, but you are getting a genuinely pleasant stay in one of the city’s most interesting neighborhoods. Plus, the staff seems to remember faces, which creates this nice sense of familiarity that makes the whole experience feel less like a transaction and more like, well, coming back to a place that actually wants you there.
To book a hotel in Bogota during Christmas lights, guests pair Monserrate funicular rides with Usaquen market strolls.

The room was very good, cleaned daily with change of towels if needed. The breakfast was good ,I particularly liked the "Calde" aka Soup for breakfast. It is a tradition that should be introduced world wide. There is free nice tasting coffee at reception. The location is great for Montserrate, La Candelaria, Torre Patria, Presidential Palace and even the train station for the train to the Salt Cathedral.
