Hotel Muisca Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Muisca feels like stepping into a piece of Bogotá’s soul — you’re right in the heart of La Candelaria, where every cobblestone has a story. This four-star boutique hotel sits on Calle 10, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you want to actually experience the city’s historic center rather than just glimpse it from a taxi window. The building itself has that colonial charm you’d expect, but with modern touches that make it clear this isn’t some dusty museum masquerading as accommodation.

The Historic Heart

You know what I love about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by centuries of history — the Gold Museum is a five-minute walk, Plaza Bolívar is right there, and you can wander through streets that feel frozen in time. But here’s the thing about La Candelaria that guidebooks don’t always mention: it transforms throughout the day. Mornings are quiet and atmospheric, perfect for photography, while afternoons buzz with street art tours and local life. The hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood rhythms and will steer you toward the best times to explore different areas.

Your Room and Comfort

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you can tell someone put real consideration into maximizing the space without making it feel cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic buildings), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t feel like you’re roughing it. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re in the middle of everything. The windows are well-insulated, which matters more than you’d think when you’re in a bustling historic district.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is American-style, which might seem odd in Colombia until you realize how perfect it is after a night exploring Bogotá’s nightlife. I mean, sometimes you just want familiar comfort food before diving into another day of adventure. The restaurant area has this cozy feel, and the staff makes excellent coffee — which, let’s be honest, is non-negotiable in Colombia. They’ll also give you solid recommendations for local eateries if you want to branch out for other meals.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s what really sets this place apart: couples absolutely rave about it (they’ve rated the location 9.0, and I get why). There’s something romantic about staying in a historic neighborhood where you can walk hand-in-hand through centuries-old streets, then retreat to a comfortable, intimate hotel. Recent guests consistently praise the location — scoring it 8.9 — and after spending time here, that makes complete sense. You’re not just staying near Bogotá’s cultural heart; you’re living in it. The hotel strikes that sweet spot between authentic local experience and reliable comfort that makes you want to extend your stay just one more night.

Hotel in Bogota reservations spike before ArtBo when galleries and design fairs take over warehouses.

Reviews of Hotel Muisca

  • Marcel from Guatemala (9/10)

Quiet location very close to everything in La Candelaria, easily walkable if (short) uphill walks in this altitude are no problem for you.

The hotel has a special charm, someone between Spanish Colonial and a European medieval castle. One of the most unique places we ever stayed in.

Staff was friendly and attentive, especially the young woman working reception on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Good for her, she had Sunday off, so we didn't get to ask for her name, but she was always there and always went the extra mile.

  • Michelle from New Zealand (7/10)

Great location, felt safe walking to and from restaurants and other attractions. Interesting old building.

  • Kate from United Kingdom (9/10)

This really is a gem. The room was lovely and comfortable- really clean and spacious. Also plenty of room to hang up clothes. The best bit was the roof terrace where we could have breakfast and drinks in the evening- fantastic views!

  • James from Canada (9/10)

Historic house with a lot of character in a great location, clean and comfortable. Near the museums, cafes and restaurants. The staff was wonderful, Carlos was especially helpful when we had to store our luggage for a later departure. They also prepared us some food on our first night as it was too late to go out.

  • Mccoy from United Kingdom (9/10)

The staff were so friendly and accommodating

  • Wvbemmel from Netherlands (8/10)
