Hotel De La Opera Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel De La Opera feels like stepping back in time — but in the best possible way. This five-star boutique property sits right in the heart of Bogotá’s historic Candelaria district, and honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect if you’re looking to experience the real soul of Colombia’s capital. The building itself has this gorgeous colonial architecture that makes you pause and appreciate where you are, you know? It’s one of those places where the history feels alive rather than just preserved for tourists.
The Historic Heart of Bogotá
What I love about staying here is how you’re literally surrounded by centuries of history. The Teatro Colón is practically next door — I mean, you can walk there in under two minutes — and the Gold Museum is just a few blocks away. But here’s what guidebooks don’t tell you: early mornings in this neighborhood are magical. Before the tour groups arrive, you can wander the cobblestone streets and feel like you have this UNESCO World Heritage area all to yourself. The couples who stay here seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.5, and I totally understand why.
Luxury Meets Authentic Character
The room design strikes this perfect balance between colonial charm and modern luxury that’s honestly hard to find. Each one feels different — some have these incredible wooden beam ceilings, others overlook quiet courtyards where you can actually hear birds singing (which is pretty remarkable for a city center). The attention to detail is what sets this place apart from other luxury hotels in the area. You’ll find handcrafted furniture alongside all the modern amenities you’d expect, and the bathrooms are genuinely impressive without feeling over-the-top.
Dining and Practical Perks
The breakfast buffet deserves its own mention — it’s this wonderful mix of international options and Colombian specialties that actually taste authentic. I particularly appreciated how they source local ingredients, and the coffee (well, this is Colombia) is exceptional. What surprised me was the free private parking — if you’re planning to explore beyond Bogotá during your stay, having secure parking in this part of the city is honestly a game-changer. Most historic center hotels can’t offer this, so it’s a real advantage.
Why Guests Love It
Recent guests have rated the location 9.6, and after spending time here, I get why the numbers are so high. It’s not just about being centrally located — it’s about being in the right part of the center. You’re close enough to walk to major attractions, amazing local restaurant options, and those little family-run shops that sell the best emeralds in the city, but you’re also in a quieter pocket that feels residential rather than touristy. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward experiences you won’t find in any guidebook. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in a place with this much character while still enjoying five-star service and amenities.
The concierge service in Bogota arranges helicopter flyovers of Monserrate, chef-hosted coffee cuppings, and VIP access to street art studios.

I had an absolutely brilliant stay. The Hotel staff were warm and welcoming, and not just in words but in action. I felt seen and valued as a person and as a guest.

Location – a few minutes walk from Plaza Bolivar and a number of sights. Great view from our room on the 7th floor & room was quiet. Our flight was very late at night – we were able to keep our bags in the hotel and also used their lounge to rest before getting our taxi.
